Lipoic Acid Supreme contains 300 mg of lipoic acid, along with 4 mg of pure biotin and 500 mg of taurine, and is designed to help maintain normal blood sugar and insulin balance. Lipoic acid is a sulfur-containing compound with amphiphilic antioxidant properties, making it effective in both water- and lipid-based environments. This unique property allows it to neutralize free radicals in both hydrophilic and lipophilic environments, such as the cytoplasm, plasma membranes, serum, and lipoproteins. Lipoic acid is best known for its antioxidant capacity, but this molecule has also been shown to have potent effects on blood sugar control via insulin secretion and sensitivity, while also aiding in metal detoxification.

Mammals are capable of endogenous tissue synthesis of lipoic acid, but humans do so in very small amounts and are therefore better suited to absorbing it from exogenous sources.
