HMF Vaginal Health contains the probiotic Lactobacillus plantarum KABP-061, a patented human strain with unique properties that allow it to restore vaginal flora and strong adhesion to vaginal mucosa. In healthy women, lactobacilli are the predominant bacteria in the vaginal ecosystem; they have a strong influence on maintaining a balanced microbiota in the vagina by inhibiting the proliferation of undesirable bacterial species. In an open, prospective, comparative study, the use of the probiotic Lactobacillus plantarum KABP-061, following antifungal treatment for vulvovaginal candidiasis, was found to significantly reduce all vaginal symptoms assessed (leukorrhea, erythema, edema, stinging, itching, pain, and foul odor) after 14 days. A healthy vaginal flora reduces the risk of fungal proliferation, which reduces the risk of infections. This was seen in the same study, which demonstrated that Lactobacillus plantarum KABP-061 helps reduce the number of recurrences by 60% in women who suffer from recurrent vulvovaginal candidiasis.
