Foresterol is a blend of phytosterols (plant sterols and stanols) that is proven by research and years of clinical use to promote healthy cholesterol levels in the body.
When ingested, phytosterols inhibit the absorption of cholesterol, thereby lowering total and low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol levels. Foresterol is composed primarily of the four major phytosterols: beta-sitosterol, campesterol (as free sterol; not as sterol esters), campestanol, and sitostanol. They have been shown to inhibit the absorption of cholesterol, both dietary and biliary, in the small intestine; therefore, even vegetarians can benefit from Foresterol.
It is important to note that a large portion of the cholesterol present in serum comes from intestinal reabsorption of cholesterol, the latter originating from the liver and gallbladder.
